The Asia Kakehashi Project + (Plus) 2026 is a fully funded scholarship from the Japanese government, managed by AFS Intercultural Programs Thailand. It allows high school students from Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia and Vietnam to study in Japan for 5 months (August–December 2026) while experiencing culture through homestays or dormitories.
Purpose: To strengthen bonds between Japan and 4 countries (Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia and Vietnam), fostering cross-cultural understanding.
Target: High school students aged 15–18 years old with an interest in Japanese language and culture.
Funding: Full scholarship funded by the Japanese government covering tuition, travel, and accommodation.
In-Program Support: Participants are supported by AFS Japan staff and local volunteers.
Application and Eligibility:
- Application Deadline: application opens around February of each year
- Eligibility Requirements: High school students aged 15–18 years old, good academic performance with at least 60% average marks in all subjects, preference given to candidates with Japanese language skills, and not having previously participated in the Kakehashi program, preference may be given to low-income families.
