AFS Thailand History

จากการรวมตัวกันจัดตั้งศูนย์พยาบาล ภายใต้ชื่อ “American Field Service” โดยหนุ่มสาวชาวอเมริกันที่อยู่ ณ กรุงปารีส ในช่วงหลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 1 ในปี พ.ศ. 2457 ขยายสู่องค์กรแลกเปลี่ยนนักเรียนนานาชาติ ตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2489 จนถึงปัจจุบัน “เอเอฟเอส” คือโครงการแลกเปลี่ยนนักเรียนนานาชาติที่มีเครือข่ายนักเรียนแลกเปลี่ยนและเครือข่ายอาสาสมัคร ตลอดจนเป็นองค์กรแลกเปลี่ยนนักเรียนนานาชาติที่ได้รับความเชื่อถือมากที่สุดในโลก

การแลกเปลี่ยนทางวัฒนธรรม คือหนึ่งหนทางในการสร้างเสริมความเข้าใจอันดีระหว่างประเทศ “เอเอฟเอส ประเทศไทย” ก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2505 ตลอดมาได้สานต่อปรัชญาดั้งเดิมของเอเอฟเอสสากล ในการรณรงค์ให้เกิดสันติภาพในโลก โดยการส่งเสริมนักเรียนรุ่นแล้วรุ่นเล่าให้ได้มีโอกาสเดินทางไปแลกเปลี่ยนวัฒนธรรมยังนานาประเทศทั่วโลก

With the success story of the “American Field Service”, from a medevac squad established by a group of American youth living in Paris during the World War I in 1914, to the international exchange student organisation since 1946, “AFS” is the world’s most respectable international exchange student project with a large network of exchange students and volunteers all around the globe.

Cultural exchange is one proven way onto building international understanding, “AFS Thailand” was therefore established in 1962, following the long-standing philosophy of the AFS International in campaigning for the peace on earth by giving out opportunities for students, year after year, to connect to the world of diverse cultures.

หนุ่มสาวผู้กล้าหาญ 15 คนภายใต้ชื่อ American Field Service รวมตัวกันจัดตั้งศูนย์พยาบาล ณ ชานเมืองกรุงปารีส อาสาขับรถพยาบาล คอยรับผู้บาดเจ็บจากการโจมตีฝรั่งเศสของเยอรมัน ในสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 1 ไปดูแลรักษาโดยไม่เลือกเชื้อชาติใด ๆ

15 brave young Americans volunteered and established a medical care centre in the suburb of Paris. They stood out amidst the rain of German mortar fire in World War I, driving ambulances to transport the wounded, regardless of their nationalities and the side they take.

โครงการทุนการศึกษาของมูลนิธิเอเอฟเอสประเทศไทย ได้เริ่มขึ้น โดยคณะรัฐมนตรีได้อนุมัติในหลักการให้นักเรียนไทยได้รับทุนเอเอฟเอสเต็มจำนวนจากสหรัฐอเมริกาผ่านทาง USIS มีผู้ได้รับทุนในปีแรกและเดินทางไปยังประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาจำนวน 14 คน

AFS Foundation Thailand was established with approval from the cabinet of the Royal Thai Government. Fourteen Thai students received fully-funded scholarships from USIS (United States Information Service) to set out on a year-long cultural exchange trip to the United States of America.

มีมติให้เอเอฟเอสประเทศไทยเปลี่ยนเป็น “องค์กรนานาชาติ” มีการแลกเปลี่ยนระหว่างประเทศอื่นๆ ด้วย อาทิ ออสเตรเลีย นิวซีแลนด์ แคนาดา ละตินอเมริกา และยุโรป เปลี่ยนชื่อองค์กรเป็น “AFS International Intercultural Programs”

the AFS Thailand was morphed into an “International Organisation”, expanding its coverage all around the globe – Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Latin America, and Europe, under the new name of “AFS International Intercultural Programs”.

เอเอฟเอสประเทศไทยได้รับการโหวตจากประเทศเครือข่ายสมาชิกเอเอฟเอสสากลทั่วโลกกว่า 50 ประเทศ ให้เป็นหนึ่งในห้าประเทศที่มีการดำเนินงานยอดเยี่ยม คว้ารางวัลสุดยอดด้านคุณภาพโดยรวม (No.1 in Overall Quality) และรางวัลศักยภาพการเติบโตสูงสุด (High Growth Potential) ต่อเนื่องจนถึงปี พ.ศ.2547 และได้รับอีกครั้งในปี พ.ศ. 2551

AFS Thailand was voted by the network of AFS Network in more than 50 countries as one of the five best administered and organised, winning the No.1 in Overall Quality, and High Growth Potential awards. The organisation also received the same awards in 2004, and again in 2008.

เอเอฟเอสประเทศไทย ได้รับหน้าที่เป็นเจ้าภาพจัดการประชุมเอเอฟเอสโลก หรือ AFS World Congress 2555 ซึ่งตรงกับวาระครบรอบ 50 ปีของมูลนิธิฯ

AFS Thailand was honoured in being the host of the AFS World Congress 2012 in Thailand, celebrating its golden jubilee of the foundation.
